MOM raises $40,000 for New Moms, Orphans, and Students impacted by Hurricane Sandy
On Saturday, November 17, 2012, Mothers On a Mission (MOM) hosted their second Fundraiser Dinner and netted over $40,000 – a new fundraising record! Enormous thanks to all our members and supporters who helped make it such a success. Over 200 people attended the event at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, NJ – double the attendance of our inaugural fundraiser in November 2010. With almost 80 silent auction items, and 9 live auction items, from over 100 donors, there was something for everyone. A fabulously fun band, The $3 Mu Mu’s, kept the evening lively, and inspiring speeches reminded us all why we were there. What a night!
Proceeds from the event will help many, many people, both near and far:
Alanyi Healthcare Center Maternity Unit – Lira, Uganda
In early 2011 the Alanyi Health Center in Lira, Uganda broke ground on a new Maternity Unit. The new Maternity Unit will have a delivery/operating room, recovery room, reception area for the mother’s family, and areas for consultation and family planning. It is the biggest building in the health center complex and will be dedicated to treating new mothers and their newborns. The building structure is complete and the interior is being finished. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help purchase beds, medical equipment, and supplies to make this a fully functioning Maternity Unit – a desperately needed facility in this part of the world.
Our Lady of Peace Children’s Ark Orphanage - Wabulenzi, Uganda
Children’s Ark was opened in 2005. Their ultimate goal is to protect and educate orphaned children. They provide shelter, food, clothing, healthcare, school fees and school supplies for almost 100 children of all ages. Proceeds from our fundraiser will help us continue to sponsor these orphans, providing them all essentials for living, including an education.

Xavier is a Jesuit high school in Manhattan that prides itself on teaching students to become “Men for Others.” Over 80 of its students (25% of the student body) are from the Rockaways and Breezy Point, and have been displaced as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
