MOM initiative provides clean drinking water – 2010/2011
Beginning in the Summer of 2010, MOM teamed up with Charity: Water. Our goal: to fund the building of a freshwater well that would provide clean water to a village in a developing country. During the course of a few months, money was collected via summer sports camps, personal donations, race sponsorships, and lemonade stands. MOM raised over $5,000 – the amount needed to sponsor and build a well. 100% of the proceeds went directly to the building and maintenance of a specific well, including the establishment of a water council that is made up of local villagers, half of whom must be women. Our well is being constucted in Ethiopia and will take approximately one year to build. Once completed, it will be able to be viewed on the Charity: Water website.
